- Open an internet browser on the computer you want to be able to access remotely & log into your LogMeIn.com account from LogMeIn's home page: http://www.LogMeIn.com
- Click on the Add Computer link near the top-right corner of your account page.
- When asked to "Select a LogMeIn Product", select the FREE version if you are not already familiar with the other product offerings. Click the Continue button when ready.
- Wait a minute or two for the download to begin. If/when you receive a Security Warning window asking you if you want to install something from LogMeIn, Inc., either click Yes, Run, or Grant depending on which type of security window pops up.
- Wait another minute for the download to complete. A progress bar should be displayed showing the approximate time left.
- When it's finished downloading, you may see another security window from your Web browser. Click Allow or Run if this happens.
- A new LogMeIn installation wizard will eventually appear. Click Next > to proceed with the setup.
- Click I Agree to accept the "Terms and Conditions".
- On the "software options" page, click the circle next to "Custom (for advanced users)".
- Now type a Description of the computer you are adding. I recommend typing the full name of the person who normally uses the computer, such as "Curly Sue" or "Jow Blow". Otherwise, just type a descriptive name such as "Server" or "XYZ123". You should be able to immediately associate the name you're supplying here with the computer you're adding when seeing it in a list of other computers added to your account.
- Click Next > after typing a Description.
- On the "Proxy Settings" window, just click the Next > button since there's no need to adjust any of these settings.
- Click Next > again to accept the default program Destination Location.
- VISTA ONLY: If using Windows Vista, you will probably see a User Account Control (UAC) prompt. Click Continue if this happens.
- Wait a minute for the program to complete the installation. Your screen will flicker during this process!!
- Once installed, you'll see a small yellow information box appear in the bottom right corner of your screen. Review the message (and understand what it's saying) & click OK.
- Review the "Setup Completed" window of the installation wizard & click the Finish button when ready.
- Ensure you can now see your newly-added computer in the "My Computers" section of your LogMeIn control panel.
You should now have a new icon in your System Tray next to your clock. This icon is the LogMeIn program, so be sure you can recognize it. Don't close LogMeIn, or else you won't be able to access your computer remotely!

NOTE: Despite probably selecting the "Free" version of LogMeIn, the first time you add a new computer, it will sometimes default to the "Pro Trial" so you have a chance to see if the Pro features benefit you at all. You can either stay on the trial for 30 days, or immediately switch back to the Free version at any time by editing your settings for that newly-added PC in the My Computers section of your LogMeIn account page.
