Terminal Services (RDP) Client "not available" on Windows XP SP3

Problem:

When you attempt to connect to Desktop machine through Remote Web Workplace on your Windows XP Service Pack 3 computer, you receive the following error:

"The Microsoft Terminal Services Client ActiveX control (also known as Microsoft RDP Client Control) is either not available, or is not enabled."

Solution:

  1. Close all open windows & dialog boxes.
  2. Go to Start --> Run...
  3. Type the following command:  regsvr32 mstscax.dll
  4. Press ENTER.
  5. You should receive a window that says, "DllRegisterServer in mstscax.dll succeeded."  Click OK.
  6. Re-open Internet Explorer & try again.

More Information:

According to Microsoft Tech Support, this issue occurs only after the installation of Service Pack 3 for Windows XP.
