Windows Update Agent - Event ID 16

Problem:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Windows Update Agent
Event ID: 16

Description:Unable to Connect: Windows is unable to connect to the automatic updates service and therefore cannot download and install updates according to the set schedule. Windows will continue to try to establish a connection.

Solution:

1. Click Start, Run, type: "cmd" and press Enter. Then type: "Net stop WuAuServ"
2. Click Start, Run, type: "explorer %windir%" and press Enter.
3. In the opened folder, rename the folder "SoftwareDistribution" to "SoftwareDistribution.old"
4. Open Interent Options, General Tab choose Settings under Temporary Internet Files
5. Click View Objects.
6. Right-click "WuWebControl Class" and choose remove
7. Right-click "MuWebControl Class" and choose remove
8. Rename file "c:\windows\system32\wuweb.dll" to "wuweb.dll.old"
9. Rename file "c:\windows\system32\muweb.dll" to "muweb.dll.old"
10. Visit http://update.microsoft.com & re-install Windows Update, then Microsoft Update
