Although there is no way to remove it completely, you can hide it using a plugin called Remove Logo (aka "hidelogo"):
- Download the hidelogo CAB file (attached below).
- Use ActiveSync (XP) or WMDC (Vista) & "explore" your phone to copy the CAB file to it (the My Documents folder would be a good spot, unless you have a storage card).
- Launch File Explorer on your mobile device & browse to the CAB file.
- Launch the CAB file & install it to the device.
- Soft reset your device to initialize the plug-in.
- From the Today screen, click Menu --> Preferences --> and check "Hide Lookup Field". Remember, since the status bar is a part of the Lookup Field API, you can only hide it by also hiding the lookup field.
- You can still use the Lookup Field by typing text while at the Today Screen. Notice when you start typing, the lookup field and the status bar temporarily appear, but will disappear once you are finished with the lookup.
- The hidelogo plug-in will appear as an option in the Today "Items" list so you can easily enable/disable it as needed.
- It also appears in the Remove Programs list as "Mavick hidelogocab" so you can completely uninstall it if ever desired.
- The first time I installed/used the plugin on WM6.1, there was a blank line at the bottom of my Today screen that was unable to be used by the other plug-ins. After uninstalling/reinstalling/resetting the device (not sure which actually mattered), I have not seen this problem again.
- The developer says on his post that he thinks the program works better if it's the last one listed in the Today items list.
